Literacy Coaching Certificate

Literacy coaches are teachers with a strong background in literacy who support other teachers in learning and problem-solving to enhance student success. The Literacy Coaching Certificate program is a nine-credit, three course program designed for those who already have Wisconsin license 5017 – Reading Specialist or 1316 – Reading Teacher and would like to enhance their coaching skills. Graduate students participate in cohorts formed by their school districts, clusters of school districts, or CESAs.

The three courses that comprise the Literacy Coaching Certificate are:

  • Literacy 767: Methods and Models in Literacy Coaching: An overview of approaches to coaching and detailed assistance in developing effective coaching skills.
  • Literacy 764: Special Topics: A course designed specifically for cohort participants, in response to their needs and interests.
  • Literacy 766: Field Experience in Literacy Coaching: A supervised field experience in which practicing and developing literacy coaches are coached personally as they enhance their skills.
